Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

It’s hard to believe it is a new year already!  I am so excited about this year to come – confident that it will be filled with fun and inspiration and creativity.  The start of a new year often feels like the start of a new journey.

Like many of us I have so many hopes and dreams for the upcoming year.  How do we hold on to this feeling of wind in our sails?  May our hopes and dreams and our ambitions and goals carry us through another year.

Yet we can’t realize our dreams and goals by doing the same old thing.  We have to reach for more and think out side the box.  So today may we take our first steps towards a project or creating goals and intentions that lie outside our comfort zones.  That will help us grow creatively along the 2015 journey.

January’s art journey starts with my 6th 3-D piece.  Each one has been created just a little differently and fine-tuned along the way.  I generally don’t paint for a specific show but I am with this piece (more about the show later). The “stretch” part of this project is that the 3-D is of two portraits (not my forte).

This is what I have so far.

Each individual portrait is 22 x 15

Each self portrait will be cut into (lets say) one-inch vertical strips to create an image from each angle.   And I also hope to accomplish a third morphed self-portrait type of image when looked at straight on. I’m anxious to see how the morphed image turns out since I was only able to align the eyes more or less. We’ll see…

And if you are completely confused about what I am doing here is a sample of the last one I did. Two separate images each at opposing angles. In this 3/D piece I was not trying to achieve a 3rd view. But you get the idea.

The top view is of the two blended pieces being viewed straight on. The two on the bottom is two paintings cut in 1 inch strips.

And as always,

Keeping the brushes wet,

Art quote:

A great quote from the movie Big Eyes from the character Walter: People don’t get to discover art. They buy art because it’s in the right place at the right time.
