SOLD!!!

Karen Druker  (the curator for Los Altos Hills public art as well as for the Town Hall) contacted me by email on Friday night letting me that someone was interested in my painting. That was on exhibit at the LAH Town Hall.

That she was also interested in two other paintings by other artists. Karen was contacting me for permission to let her friend take the painting home to see how it would look in her newly finished kitchen.

I took the weekend to think about. Feeling that I was all ready spread so thin and with my solo exhibit coming up could I really afford to let a piece go? Wait a minute, isn’t this one of the reasons I paint and show, is to sell so I can continue to paint and show? So Sunday night I followed up with Karen and let her know that it would be okay for her friend to take the painting home, to see if it would work.

In less than 24 hours, Karen emailed me letting me know that the painting had sold and that a check was in the mail.

In less that 48 hours from the time I had consented to loan the piece out I received a second email. This included a photo of the painting in its new home and this is what the new owner had to say, I am thrilled with Teresa's  painting, she is a superb watercolor artist. Her attention to detail, & the way she had the painting framed. Please tell her for me that her painting has a prominent resting spot, we will enjoy it all the time.”

Learning about the show “No Limits – Freedom to Create” was very exciting! And so this piece was created specifically for the show. I wanted to upload the video I have for the painting below - but it was a little bigger than Blogger could handle.
Beastly Beauty

Three pieces were submitted by me, “Floral Inquest,” the 3 – D piece “Beastly – Beauty” and “Liquid Color.” The first two were accepted.

I don’t always paint for a show, it just so happens that I did just that for two shows within a year. Originally “Liquid Color” was titled “Wet Paint.” Being new to the area, Pacific Art League in Palo Alto was the first club I joined.

Liquid Color

Shortly after joining there was an announcement for open registration and the theme was, “Wet Paint.” I had been playing around with this idea and now I got to paint it! And I love it. It is such a beautiful expression of art and me the artist. So imagine my surprise when the painting was not accepted. Well downhearted does not even begin to describe how I felt. I thought this piece was a shoe in.

Earlier this year I was in an on line class hosted by AlysonStanfield. It was called the “No Excuse Art Biz Bootcamp.” In this on line class one of our goals was to have a venue lined up for a solo exhibit. In doing this I am now going to be having a solo exhibit this summer.

Show Theme Liquid Color
Opens: July 6th, 2015
Closes: September 29th, 2015
Reception: July 25th, from 2:00 – 5:00 pm
A second reception to be announced

While being reviewed – and then accepted to have a solo exhibit they were very specific about the four pieces that would not be accepted. Of course “Liquid Color” and;

Man and Woman two separate paintings
24 x 18 each
oil
for both pieces framed separately $1200

Still not understanding the full sensual translation of the piece (Liquid Color) and how some might be put off, I asked a juror I had spent some time with about this and she really didn’t give me an answer.

Now that you the history and background I am so excited to finally be able to share this painting with you. I replaced “Floral Inquest” with “Liquid Color.” Yay!!!

Theo and the St. have been sleeping together since they were babies.

They weighed pretty much the same amount when they first met. Theo weighing maybe a little bit more.

Now the St. weighs three and half times more than Theo.

These two are inseparable and they share a special bond. An intuitive love and devotion that is personal to the two of them.

Every morning on the way to the kitchen mom gets St. up and out as she starts her morning and rousing the home. Making coffee and getting breakfast, making sure everyone is off to a good start.

Theo, missing the warmth of the St. wakes up and patters out of his room. St. is patiently waiting on the porch in front of the frosty window for his little buddy.

A routine they have developed over the year when Theo started feeding him.

And so the morning has begun.

A Labor of Love

Boy with Kitten

Boy with Kitten
22 x 30
WaterColor
unframed $500.

This piece almost didn't make it! But what a Labor of Love it turned out to be.

As you gaze at it the painting holds your gaze, the composition is strong and the contrast is certainly there.

Casa de Teresita

OMG – it’s been so long since I’ve posted.

I traveled to some wonderful places in May of 2015 and have some rich and wonderful memories and am full of inspiration.

When we got home we had some animal emergencies and our home felt like an infirmary. Chloe our ten-year-old Bichon has a slightly torn ACL that has really slowed her down. Our five-year-old feline Dora slapped our five-year-old canine Oli and tore his inner eyelid which was totally disgusting. And Simba our nineteen-year-old kitty walks around in his own silent world.

I haven’t posted or painted much. I do have a painting that I finished today but haven’t photographed the piece. The one of the little boy that I gave up on, well I didn’t and I’m very happy with it.

The SCVWS is having a new show at the Saratoga Library – “Shades of Summer” so entered this shady piece.

I’ll be having a one-man show at the Presentation Center in the Los Gatos Hills from July first through the end of September. I’m now quite sure how many pieces I will have on exhibit but it will be in the neighborhood of about 45 framed paintings.

The reception for my show will be on July 25th at 2:00 pm. You are all invited to bring friends and family.

And I’m back to posting and up dates.

As always keeping the brushes wet,

Teresa

Natural Bridge

Every year for Thanksgiving, David and his Berkeley friends get together to celebrate.  Two years ago when I joined the party it felt very much like The Big Chill.

This past Thanksgiving we all met and had Thanksgiving in Santa Cruz. One afternoon we all went to Natural Bridge State Park. We were in a grove of eucalyptus trees; we walked further on a wooden sidewalk down into a canyon. Then to my surprise as the painting developed – it very much felt like the Natural Bridge Experience.

This painting was inspired from a photo my youngest son Neil took on one of his many sojourns through China.

They (Neil (my son) and Emily (my daughter-in-law)) are now in Viet Nam. Finding more inspiration on his blog I’ll have more paintings to share with you.

3-D Beastly Beauty the creation of

3-D Beastly Beauty

Here is the entire 3-D process – If you would care to create or assemble one of your own.  This one is done in watercolor on 300 lb paper.

Selecting a subject that would read well as a three dimensional piece seemed a bit difficult at the time, wanting two pieces that were opposites of one another yet the same. Deciding on two self-portraits, one happy and one sad.

Taking a slue of selfies before showering. Reviving recent painful memories thinking the expression captured was one of sadness. Once the sad painting was finished she looked more like a beast, a mean old hag instead of someone who is sad. So then the title changed to “Beauty and the Beast.”

Then after the shower – dressing as if going to dinner and feeling deeply grateful for my life today, taking more selfies this time of a happy me. She looks more sassy then happy.

The pieces were painted

Cut into strips

It became a bit exciting upon realization that the two images chosen were shot in very similar lighting and positions. Would it be at all possible that the two images could morph into one?

Then folding two pieces of paper, then attaching them creating enough strips to glue the stripped painted portrait pieces. Working with one painting at a time and gluing them with Elmer’s.

Then mounted the folded paper onto a 24 x 24 gallery wrapped canvas.

After it was all said and done the title was changed for a third time to “3-D Beastly Beauty.”

Beastly Beauty can be seen at the Los Altos Hills Town Hall located at
26379 Fremont Road, Los Altos Hills, CA 94002

For hours call 650.941.7222

The reception will be on Sunday April 19 from 2 – 5.
